HAROLD B. SIGHTLER OF GREENVILLE COUNTY ON THE
HAPPY OCCASION OF THEIR SIXTIETH WEDDING
ANNIVERSARY, MAY 11, 1995, AND COMMENDING BOTH
OF THESE WONDERFUL PEOPLE FOR THEIR MANY
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THEIR CHURCH AND COMMUNITY
OVER THE YEARS.
Whereas, on May 11, 1935, a very loving couple, Harold B.
Sightler and Helen Grace Vaughn of Greenville entered into the
blessed state of matrimony; and
Whereas, sixty years later, as they prepare to celebrate their sixtieth
wedding anniversary, these two wonderful people are still deeply in
love with each other and feel truly blessed by God for the six
decades He has given them as husband and wife; and
Whereas, in 1940, Dr. Sightler answered God's call to the ministry;
even though he had a family to support, he enrolled at Furman
University to prepare; as a young preacher, he held tent meetings in
various areas of Greenville; in April, 1943, he became pastor of
Mauldin First Baptist Church, and in July of that same year he
became full-time pastor of Pelham Baptist Church; and
Whereas, in 1952, the great church on White House Road in
Greenville was born, Tabernacle Baptist Church; the ministry of this
church under the Reverend Dr. Sightler reaches out at home and
abroad through its Christian Day School, Bible College, Orphan
Home, and its four hundred missionaries; and
Whereas, Helen Grace Vaughn Sightler is a genuine matriarch of
the church and her family; uncomplaining and generous in spirit
and deed, she carried the responsibility of raising the couple's
children and caring for their home while her husband was away
preaching the Gospel; and
Whereas, in the early days of their ministry, Mrs. Sightler made
clothing in order to earn money for her family's care; she became a
master of tailoring and design; during her profession, she was
employed by Heyward Mahan and Meyers-Arnold and retired from
Ivey's after many years of devoted and excellent service to her
many customers; and
Whereas, the Sightlers practice real family values in every way, and
these two outstanding people has rendered countless hours of
devoted and productive service to their church and community over
many years; and
Whereas, they are the model of a happy married life, and their
innumerable friends respect, admire, and love them deeply for their
qualities and actions. Now, therefore,

concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this

and community over the years.
