RESOLUTION
SALUTING NORMAN DEAN BANNISTER OF BELTON FOR
HIS DEDICATED SERVICE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND
THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND WISHING HIM
HAPPINESS AND SUCCESS FOLLOWING HIS RETIREMENT
AS PUBLIC SAFETY CHIEF AT PATRICK B. HARRIS
PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL.
Whereas, Norman Dean Bannister of Belton attended Belton High
School, Tri County Technical College, where he earned an associate
degree in criminal justice and was the "1975 Outstanding
Graduate", and the FBI National Academy; and
Whereas, he served his country with distinction in the United States
Air Force from 1955-59; and
Whereas, he has been a member of the South Carolina Law
Enforcement Officers Association, the South Carolina Police Chief
Association, the Anderson County Police Chief Association, the FBI
National Academy Associates of South Carolina (past president),
Masonic Lodge 130 of Belton, and American Legion Post 51 of
Belton; and
Whereas, he served for twenty years on the Law Enforcement
Advisory Board for Tri County Technical College, has been an
active member of the Belton Lions Club (by which organization he
was named "Citizen of the Year" in 1985), and is a
member of First Baptist Church of Belton; and
Whereas, he worked for the Belton Police Department from 1963
until 1985 and was the town's police chief for thirteen years; and
Whereas, he worked at the Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital
for ten years (from 1985-95), serving there in the position of Public
Safety Chief for six years; and
Whereas, he is retiring as the hospital's Public Safety Chief on June
30, 1995; and
Whereas, he has had a distinguished career in law enforcement and
has given most generously of his time, talents, and energy to his
community; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly feel that he is
highly deserving of recognition and are very pleased to have this
opportunity to salute him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, salutes Norman Dean Bannister of Belton for his
dedicated service to law enforcement and the State of South
Carolina and wishes him happiness and success following his
retirement as Public Safety Chief at Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric
Hospital.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Chief Bannister.
