VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

5/11/2005

H. 4081

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

JOINING THE COMMUNITIES OF ABBEVILLE IN ABBEVILLE COUNTY AND HODGES IN GREENWOOD COUNTY IN WELCOMING HOME CLOSE TO ONE HUNDRED SOUTH CAROLINA ARMY NATIONAL GUARDSMEN OF THE 111TH SIGNAL BATTALION AFTER THEIR TOUR OF ACTIVE DUTY IN IRAQ, AND EXTENDING THE GRATITUDE OF THIS STATE TO THEM AND TO THEIR FAMILIES FOR THEIR SACRIFICES IN THE NAME OF FREEDOM.

Whereas, the 111th Signal Battalion of the South Carolina Army National Guard returned its members of Company A, based in Abbeville, and Company D, based in Hodges in Greenwood County, to an open-armed welcome May 3, 2005 at Hite Stadium in Abbeville; and

Whereas, thousands of their families and friends cheered their return from a tour of duty in Iraq, where the premier corps area Mobile Subscriber Equipment (MSE) communications unit used digital cellular and packet switching technology in support of the United States' goals in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and

Whereas, the men and women communications specialists went on active duty more than a year ago, and had been overseas in the Middle East since April of last year; and

Whereas, their sacrifices, and those of their families, in training for and serving in this most vital area of the military effort to bring peace and democracy to the beleaguered Middle East are greatly appreciated; and

Whereas, since the Colonial Militia defended against threats from Spanish Florida in 1670, the South Carolina Army National Guard has taken part in every war and conflict since the American Revolution; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of this State are honored to be a part of this heartfelt homecoming. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, join the communities of Abbeville in Abbeville County and Hodges in Greenwood County in welcoming home close to one hundred South Carolina Army National Guardsmen of the 111th Signal Battalion after their tour of active duty in Iraq, and extend the gratitude of this State to them and their families for their sacrifices in the name of freedom.
