 OFFICER FRANK ADDISON FLOYD OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL
 RESOURCES WHILE HE WAS CARRYING OUT HIS DUTIES AS A STATE GAME WARDEN, AND TO
 EXPRESS TO HIS FAMILY THE DEEPEST APPRECIATION OF A GRATEFUL STATE FOR HIS
 LIFE, SACRIFICE, AND SERVICE.

TO HONOR AND REMEMBER THE SUPREME SACRIFICE MADE BY OFFICER FRANK ADDISON FLOYD OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES WHILE HE WAS CARRYING OUT HIS DUTIES AS A STATE GAME WARDEN, AND TO EXPRESS TO HIS FAMILY THE DEEPEST APPRECIATION OF A GRATEFUL STATE FOR HIS LIFE, SACRIFICE, AND SERVICE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, on behalf of all South Carolinians, acknowledge with deep appreciation the invaluable services rendered by the men and women of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for the protection of our wildlife and other natural treasures, so richly enjoyed by the people of this great State; and

Whereas, Frank Addison Floyd, from 1942 to 1949 a law enforcement officer with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (then known as the South Carolina Wildlife Resources Department), stands high among those men and women so honored by the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, having also twenty years' experience as a game protector and woods rider for the Georgia Cypress Company, Officer Floyd, a resident of Tillman, served as a state DNR game warden in Colleton County; and

Whereas, on July 25, 1949, he and a fellow officer, Thomas Goethe, were at Cherokee Plantation near Walterboro investigating an individual suspected of nighttime deer hunting. When Officer Floyd called to the suspect, "I am a state game warden; drop that gun," the suspect opened fire with a double-barreled shotgun loaded with buckshot. Officer Floyd was hit in the chest at close range with one barrel, whereupon Officer Goethe immediately returned fire and injured the suspect, who then fled but was shortly afterwards found and brought to justice; and

Whereas, on that same night, at the age of forty, Officer Frank Addison Floyd lost his life from the injuries he had incurred in the line of duty, leaving his wife, Hortense, and his daughter, Frankie, to grieve his loss, and a saddened South Carolina citizenry to grieve with them; and

Whereas, there is no greater or more courageous sacrifice a man can make than to risk his life and ultimately lay it down for the benefit of others, as did Officer Frank Addison Floyd; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly counts it a great privilege to remember Frank Addison Floyd, one of the Palmetto State's finest, and the members with one voice offer their grateful thanks to Almighty God for the service and ultimate sacrifice of this heroic son of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and remember the supreme sacrifice made by Officer Frank Addison Floyd of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources while he was carrying out his duties as a state game warden, and express to his family the deepest appreciation of a grateful State for his life, sacrifice, and service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the family of Officer Frank Addison Floyd.
