H. 3314

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE JAMES F. BYRNES HIGH SCHOOL REBELS OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE STATE AAAA DIVISION II FOOTBALL TITLE, AND HONORING THE PLAYERS AND COACH BOBBY BENTLEY ON THEIR IMPRESSIVE 13-1 SEASON.

Whereas, the James F. Byrnes High School Rebels of Spartanburg County capped their outstanding 2004 football season with a 35-7 victory over the Irmo High School Yellow Jackets of Richland County in the AAAA Division II championship game; and

Whereas, although the high-powered Byrnes offense provided mostNext of the fireworks, the victory was truly a team effort on both sides of the football; and

Whereas, the stingy Byrnes defense held Irmo to only one hundred and twenty-nine offensive yards while forcing and recovering two fumbles. Meanwhile, the offense was busy piling up three hundred and sixty yards, PreviousmostlyNext with their innovated aerial assault; and

Whereas, the Rebels set the tone for the afternoon on their first possession. Sophomore starting quarterback Will Korn directed an eighty-three-yard march capped with a twenty-three-yard touchdown toss to Prince Miller. Korn was six for six on passing attempts for the series; and

Whereas, Junior quarterback Daniel Barton got into the act later in the first quarter, after Korn injured his ankle, with a twenty-yard-touchdown pass to Reynaldo Hunter. Barton played brilliantly, throwing four touchdown passes to earn PreviousMostNext Valuable Player honors; and

Whereas, Irmo was forced to play catch-up early in the game. The Byrnes defense, however, was well prepared for the challenge, pitching a shutout until late in the fourth quarter after the game was already well in hand; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the 2004 team, Byrnes' third consecutive State Title, truly signifies that coach Bobby Bentley's Rebels are currently the dominant power in AAAA Division II Football. This impressive victory also gives the Rebels bragging rights as the team with the Previousmost consecutive titles in Class AAAA Division II history. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, do hereby congratulate the James F. Byrnes High School Rebels of Spartanburg County on their 2004 State AAAA Division II title and honor the players and Coach Bobby Bentley on their impressive 13-1 season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Football Coach Bobby Bentley on behalf of the championship team.
