A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR RUTH TODD, A PreviousNATIONALLYNext RENOWNED ARCHITECT, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR BEING AWARDED A FELLOWSHIP BY THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS.

Whereas, the South Carolina Senate is pleased to learn that Ruth Todd, a West Columbia native, has been awarded a prestigious fellowship by the American Institute of Architects, an honor given only to architects who have made significant contributions to architecture and society on a PreviousnationalNext level and have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession; and

Whereas, a noted leader in the architectural profession, Ruth Todd has used architecture as a means to enhance our proud cultural heritage and educate South Carolinians in the appreciation and care of that heritage; and

Whereas, her passion for architecture was fostered as she earned a bachelor of arts in design and master's in architecture from Clemson University and as she studied at the Center for Design and Urban Studies in Genoa, Italy; and

Whereas, as a Stanford University associate university architect, she was entrusted with more than one hundred twenty planning and capital projects with a program exceeding $150 million per year and led several master-planning programs, most notably Frank Lloyd Wright's Hanna House, Hopkins Marine Station, the Main Quad, and the Stanford Linear Accelerator; and

Whereas, Ms. Todd was honored with numerous awards during her tenure at Stanford University, such as a PreviousNationalNext Preservation Honor Award, the Governor's Award for Historic Preservation, and numerous American Institute of Architects awards; and

Whereas, her preservation plan for the celebrated and captivating City of Charleston won a PreviousNationalNext Preservation Honor Award in 2009 and was considered an exemplary plan for preserving one of the world's most beautiful and historic cities; and

Whereas, with more than one thousand two hundred façade-rehabilitation consultations in California and South Carolina, her work has contributed to downtown revitalization and economic development in excess of $523 million; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the pride and recognition that Ruth Todd has brought to the Palmetto State by being awarded a fellowship by the American Institute of Architects and for her outstanding contributions PreviousnationwideNext to the protection and preservation of America's architecture. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Ruth Todd, a Previousnationally renowned architect, and congratulate her on being awarded a Fellowship by the American Institute of Architects.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Ruth Todd.
