A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER FIVE HURMAN FRANKLIN HUGHES FOR THIRTY-SEVEN YEARS OF SERVICE TO SOUTH CAROLINA AND THIS PreviousNATIONNext.

Whereas, Hurman Franklin Hughes was born in Anderson, South Carolina, on May 18, 1936; and

Whereas, he graduated from Boys High School in 1954; and

Whereas, in 1958, Mr. Hughes became a citizen soldier when he enlisted in Headquarters and Headquarters Battery of the 678th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion and was discharged in 1970 after a distinguished military career; and

Whereas, he reenlisted in 1971 in Headquarters, Second Battalion, 263rd Artillery of the South Carolina PreviousNationalNext Guard located in Anderson; and

Whereas, on February 16, 1978, President Jimmy Carter and Governor James Edwards designated him an Officer and a Gentleman when he was appointed Warrant Officer W-1 and assigned as a Unit Supply Technician in Headquarters Battery, Second Battalion of the 263rd Artillery; and

Whereas, he has received numerous military awards and decorations which include the United States Meritorious Service Medal, the Reserve Component Achievement Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, and the PreviousNationalNext Defense Service Medal; and

Whereas, Hurman Franklin Hughes has served this State and PreviousnationNext with honor and distinction for more than thirty-seven years and retired on May 17, 1996, and was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer Five on May 18, 1996. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly honor Chief Warrant Officer Five Hurman Franklin Hughes for his distinguished military service to South Carolina and this Previousnation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chief Warrant Officer Five Hurman Franklin Hughes.
