A Concurrent Resolution to express the sincere congratulations of the members
of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina to the town of
Hartsville on the occasion of being named one of the ten winners of the 1996
All-America City Award by the National Civic League and to express gratitude
to the citizens, town officials, and businesses of Hartsville for their
tireless efforts to improve our State.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE
MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE
OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE TOWN OF HARTSVILLE ON
THE OCCASION OF BEING NAMED ONE OF THE TEN
WINNERS OF THE 1996 ALL-AMERICA CITY AWARD BY
THE NATIONAL CIVIC LEAGUE AND TO EXPRESS
GRATITUDE TO THE CITIZENS, TOWN OFFICIALS, AND
BUSINESSES OF HARTSVILLE FOR THEIR TIRELESS
EFFORTS TO IMPROVE OUR STATE.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very proud to
learn that the Town of Hartsville was named one of ten national
winners of the 1996 All-America City Award by the National Civic
League; and
Whereas, the community of Hartsville bested cities like Boston,
Massachusetts, and shared top honors with cities such as New
Orleans, Louisiana; Buffalo, New York; and Roanoke, Virginia; and
Whereas, this prestigious award gives Hartsville and South Carolina
national exposure, enhances statewide industrial recruitment efforts,
boosts tourism, and attracts newcomers looking for a place to settle;
and
Whereas, community projects that cinched the award for Hartsville
included: community policing, bike patrols and police substations;
downtown beautification, including new brick-trimmed sidewalks
and streetscape improvements; and the Christmas in April program,
which provides home repairs for the elderly and disabled; and
Whereas, with its diversified population, Hartsville has a
cosmopolitan atmosphere that is comprised of a strong industrial
base, intellectual and academic communities that include Coker
College and The Governor's School for Science and Mathematics,
and a host of fine and caring people; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, in honor of this
prestigious accomplishment, are proud of the fine individuals and
groups who worked so hard on numerous worthy projects for the
betterment of the Town of Hartsville and the State of South
Carolina. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
express sincere congratulations to the Town of Hartsville on the
occasion of being named one of the ten winners of the 1996
All-America City Award by the National Civic League and express
gratitude to the citizens, town officials, and businesses of Hartsville
for their tireless efforts to improve our State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
The Mayor and City Council of Hartsville.
