Whereas, Bill Rhodes was a key member of a Clinton High School football coaching staff which produced teams which won six state Class AAA championships (1972, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1985, and 1987) and four upperstate titles (1973, 1974, 1983, and 1993); and

Whereas, as an assistant coach, he coached in ten state championship football games; and

Whereas, Coach Rhodes was one of the first assistant coaches to be named to the coaching staff of the prestigious North-South All-Star Football Game; and

Whereas, as of the end of 1997, Bill Rhodes retired from both the PreviousNationalNext Guard and as assistant coach for the Clinton High School football team; and

Whereas, a change-of-command ceremony was held at the Newberry PreviousNationalNext Guard Armory on November 1, 1997, as Bill Rhodes turned over the duties of the 218th Heavy Separate Brigade Command Sergeant Major; as brigade command sergeant major, Bill Rhodes was responsible for 4,500 soldiers all over the State; he served over forty-two years in the PreviousNationalNext Guard, and his service was impeccable and highly beneficial to the citizens of the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, he has had twenty-five years at Clinton High School, following eleven years at Florida Street Junior High School; he is continuing in duties at Clinton High as administrative assistant for discipline following his retirement from his coaching position; and

Whereas, Bill Rhodes was Clinton High's baseball coach for a number of years but gave up those duties about six years ago; and

Whereas, as assistant football coach, Coach Rhodes imposed consistent, stern discipline and had the ability to inspire young people to do their best; these attributes will be greatly missed; and

Whereas, Bill Rhodes is a truly outstanding gentleman who has always given freely and generously of his time, talents, resources, loyalty, and dedication to his community and to his State, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to accord him special recognition and honor. Now, therefore,
