 LIEUTENANT GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE GOODWIN, III, FORMERLY OF THE OFFICE OF THE
 ADJUTANT GENERAL OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA MILITARY DEPARTMENT, ON THE OCCASION OF
 HIS RETIREMENT FROM MILITARY SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 13, 2002.

A SENATE RESOLUTION

HONORING THE DISTINGUISHED MILITARY CONTRIBUTIONS OF LIEUTENANT GENERAL ROBERT E. LEE GOODWIN, III, FORMERLY OF THE OFFICE OF THE ADJUTANT GENERAL OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA MILITARY DEPARTMENT, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM MILITARY SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 13, 2002.

Whereas, Lieutenant General Robert E. Lee Goodwin, III, former Deputy Adjutant General for State Operations of the South Carolina Military Department, and lately as Special Advisor on Military and Economic Affairs to the Governor of Alabama and member of the Governor's Senior Commission on the Alabama NationalNext Guard; and

Whereas, in that connection, he retired as a Lieutenant General on February 13, 2002; and

Whereas, Lieutenant General Goodwin's military career, which spanned nearly thirty years, began on July 25, 1972 as an enlisted infantryman in the United States Army and has included tours of duty with the 25th Infantry Division, 9th Infantry Division, and the military departments of South Carolina, Alabama, North Carolina, and California; and

Whereas, Lieutenant General Goodwin is a graduate of the U.S. Army General Officer Installation Commanders Course and has completed numerous programs and courses at PreviousNationalNext Defense University, United PreviousNationsNext Institute, U.S. Army War College, U.S. Army Management Staff College, U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, U.S. Army Infantry School, U.S. Marine Corps Institute, U.S. Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency; and

Whereas, Lieutenant General Goodwin's civilian education includes a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from PreviousNationalNext University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Golden Gate University and completion of executive management programs at the Harvard Business School and Yale School of Organization and Management; and

Whereas, Lieutenant General Goodwin has earned a distinguished reputation in the field of PreviousNationalNext Security, specializing in the impact analysis of the integration and interoperability of Reserve Forces with active components of the Uniformed Services of the United States; and

Whereas, this oft-honored and decorated soldier is the recipient of this state's highest honor awarded by the Governor, the Order of the Palmetto, and is also the recipient of this state's Palmetto Cross, Meritorious Service Medal, Commendation Cross, and Palmetto Patriot Award; and

Whereas, Lieutenant General Goodwin has been recognized in Who's Who in America and is a life member of the Special Forces Association, 82nd Airborne Division, and the Navy League of the United States. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, join the President of the United States and governors of South Carolina and Alabama to honor the distinguished military contributions of Lieutenant General Robert E. Lee Goodwin, III on the occasion of his retirement from military service to our PreviousNation and State.
