VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

4/13/2004

H. 5098

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE STUDENTS, TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, AND SUPPORT STAFF OF MIDWAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN LEXINGTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON THEIR SCHOOL BEING NOMINATED AS A PreviousNATIONALNext BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL FOR 2004 AND TO RECOGNIZE THE SCHOOL'S TENTH ANNIVERSARY.

Whereas, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina is pleased to learn of the outstanding accomplishment attained by Midway Elementary School of Lexington School District One on being named a nominee as a PreviousNationalNext Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education; and

Whereas, the Blue Ribbon program recognizes excellence in the school environment, including leadership, quality teaching, parent and community support, and organizational vitality; and

Whereas, the program gives PreviousnationalNext recognition to schools that are exemplary in meeting local, state, and PreviousnationalNext goals and in educating all children. These schools serve as models for other schools and represent what can be achieved when the entire school community comes together for the benefit of the children and ultimately the community and the State; and

Whereas, to be considered a Blue Ribbon School requires an extraordinary level of commitment as the program looks at various factors in determining its nominations such as daily student and teacher attendance rates and school, staff, and student awards; and

Whereas, under the leadership of Principal Margaret Mitchum, the faculty and staff have demonstrated their dedication to the students of Midway Elementary and their families for the past ten years; and

Whereas, taking the school's motto of "making a difference for every student" seriously, Principal Mitchum and the teachers of Midway selflessly give day after day of their time, talents, and energy to their students culminating in the honor of their school being nominated as a Blue Ribbon School; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina General Assembly pauses to recognize the principal, teachers, and staff of Midway Elementary School on its decade of serving the students of Lexington School District One with excellence. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend the students, teachers, administrators, and support staff of Midway Elementary School in Lexington, South Carolina, on their school being nominated as a PreviousNational Blue Ribbon School for 2004 and to recognize the school's tenth anniversary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Midway Elementary School and Principal Margaret Mitchum.
