H. 3515

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AIKEN HEAD GOLF COACH MICHAEL CARLISLE FOR BEING NAMED THE 2004 NCAA DIVISION II COACH OF THE YEAR AND THE HEAD COACH FOR THE FUJI XEROX USA VS. JAPAN COLLEGIATE GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Whereas, Head Coach Michael Carlisle has been named the Eaton Golf Pride, Division II NationalNext Coach of the Year by the Golf Coaches Association of America after leading the University of South Carolina Aiken to the 2004 NCAA Division II Men's Golf PreviousNationalNext Championship; and

Whereas, for his outstanding performance and results as a coach, Coach Carlisle was also named as the Head Coach for the Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championships, a three-round event with eighteen-hole medal play matches, to be held in Palo Alto, California, at Stanford University; and

Whereas, Carlisle has been coach of the University of South Carolina Aiken golf team for fourteen seasons; and

Whereas, under his guidance the program has been elevated to elite status; and

Whereas, in addition to the 2004 PreviousNationalNext Title, Carlisle has led the "Pacers" to five conference crowns and three NCAA runner-up finishes. In thirteen years as a member of the NCAA, Carlisle's teams have qualified for the NCAA Tournament every year, and have advanced on to the PreviousNationalNext Championship Tournament eleven times; and

Whereas, Coach Carlisle is not a stranger to coaching accolades, he is a five-time Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year and a seven-time NCAA District/Region Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, although he emphasizes the team aspect of the sport, Coach Carlisle has had the opportunity to guide many individual award winners; and

Whereas, the "Pacers" have garnered thirty-five All-Americans, twenty-nine Peach Belt All-Conference selections, four Peach Belt Conference Players of the Year, two Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year, one NCAA Freshman of the Year, and seven All-Academic honorees during his tenure; and

Whereas, this success had gained PreviousnationalNext recognition. In September 2004, the Golf Channel filmed a "college spotlight" segment on the Pacer golf program. This segment reached more than fifty-eight million homes. The team was again featured on "College Central" after the 2004 PreviousNational Championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate University of South Carolina Aiken Head Golf Coach Michael Carlisle for being named the 2004 NCAA Division II Coach of the Year and the Head Coach for the Fuji Xerox USA vs. Japan Collegiate Golf Championships.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Golf Coach Michael Carlisle.
