A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE SUCCESSFUL EFFORTS OF MAYOR JOHN RHODES IN BRINGING THE PreviousNATIONALLYNext TELEVISED PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES TO HIS TOWN BEFORE THE DEMOCRATIC AND REPUBLICAN PARTY PRIMARIES, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR BRINGING PreviousNATIONALNext ATTENTION TO THE IMPORTANCE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S PRIMARIES IN CHOOSING THE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEES.

Whereas, born in North Carolina, John Rhodes moved to the Grand Strand in 1963 and attended the University of South Carolina at Coastal Carolina; and

Whereas, during his career in the hospitality industry, he was involved with the Yachtsman Resort, Ocean Dunes, Myrtle Beach Hilton, and Gullyfield Restaurant; and

Whereas, in 1982, he began his association with the Beach Ball Classic, one of the PreviousnationNext's premier high school basketball tournaments which draws players with PreviousnationalNext ranking from around the country, and he became the Executive Director of the event in 1999; and

Whereas, elected mayor in November 2005, he assumed his duties leading Myrtle Beach City Council in January 2006; and

Whereas, in order to support the operation of both PreviousnationallyNext televised presidential debates from Myrtle Beach, Mayor Rhodes approved two hundred fifty thousand dollars in funding from the city council, and he supported significant efforts to enable the business community to extend their warm hospitality to the debate attendees; and

Whereas, during those debates, Mayor Rhodes worked tirelessly giving interviews to PreviousnationalNext and international media to promote Myrtle Beach as a wonderful vacation destination. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the successful efforts of Mayor John Rhodes in bringing the PreviousnationallyNext televised presidential debates to his town before the Democratic and Republican Party primaries, and congratulate him for bringing Previousnational attention to the importance of South Carolina's primaries in choosing the presidential nominees.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mayor John Rhodes.
