A Concurrent Resolution to offer the congratulations of the members of the
General Assembly to one of this State's most prominent art educators, Dr.
Margaret Johnson, upon being named the 1995 National Art Education Association
(NAEA) National Higher Education Division Art Educator of the Year.

RESOLUTION
TO OFFER THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ONE OF THIS STATE'S
MOST PROMINENT ART EDUCATORS, DR. MARGARET
JOHNSON, UPON BEING NAMED THE 1995 NATIONAL ART
EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (NAEA) NATIONAL HIGHER
EDUCATION DIVISION ART EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR.
Whereas, Dr. Margaret Johnson is a professor of art education at
Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and contributes
to her field through the research community by publishing articles
on art criticism as well as assessing student writing; and
Whereas, Dr. Johnson serves as a member of the South Carolina
Arts in Basic Curriculum Steering Committee where she provides
leadership and direction to the South Carolina Arts in Basic
Curriculum Project; an initiative that serves as a national model for
arts education reform; and
Whereas, Dr. Johnson served as President of the South Carolina Art
Education Association (SCAEA) for the year 1992-93 where her
efforts moved arts education reform forward at the local level in a
manner that has had significant national implications; and
Whereas, Dr. Johnson co-chaired the South Carolina Visual and
Performing Arts Framework Writing Team where her leadership
helped to create a model framework that garners national acclaim
and recognition; and
Whereas, Dr. Johnson's and her colleagues' efforts have earned the
Governor's Arts Education Award for the Winthrop University
School of Visual and Performing Arts; and
Whereas, Dr. Johnson has been awarded the SCAEA Service
Award, the NAEA South Carolina Art Educator of the Year Award,
and the NAEA Southeastern Higher Education Division Art
Educator of the Year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General assembly recognize the
outstanding achievements of Dr. Margaret Johnson, the 1995 NAEA
National Higher Education Division Art Educator of the Year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Dr. Margaret Johnson.
