FOR THEIR ARTISTIC TALENTS.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING ORANGEBURG-WILKINSON HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS, MS. KIZZI STALEY, MS. TIFFANY BOCHETTE, MR. JULIAN ALSTON, AND MR. BENJAMIN SINGLETON ON RECEIVING STATE, NATIONAL, AND INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR THEIR ARTISTIC TALENTS.
Whereas, the 1999 National Scholastic Art Writing Awards Competition featured over 350,000 entries from across the United States, Canada, United States Schools Abroad, and the United States Territories; and
Whereas, Ms. Kizzi Staley, a senior and daughter of Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School art instructors, Alvin and Bretta Staley, was one of twenty students to win the coveted "National Gold Award" in Painting and Drawing during this competition for her oil painting titled, "Mother I"; and
Whereas, Mr. Julian Alston and Mr. Benjamin Singleton, both seniors at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, were among fewer than eighty students to earn "National Silver Awards" in Painting and Drawing during this competition - Mr. Alston for his pencil drawing, "Oh What A World", and Mr. Singleton for his prismacolor pencil drawing, "Class Conversation"; and
Whereas, Ms. Staley, Mr. Alston, and Mr. Singleton, along with their art instructor, Mr. Alvin Staley, will be honored on June 18-19, 1999, during the National Scholastic Awards Ceremony which will be hosted by the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., and have their works of art displayed in the world famous Corcoran Gallery of Art in the nation's capital; and
Whereas, in addition to these three students, Orangeburg-Wilkinson senior, Ms. Tiffany Bochette, was the recipient of an international first-place art award in Savannah College of Art and Design's 1999 International Competition for Student Artists, received a scholarship to the Savannah School of Art and Design; and her work will be published in the competition's catalogue which will be distributed around the world; and
Whereas, this quartet of students also has received top awards on the statewide level in the PTSA Arts Competition and the South Carolina Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Competition; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, would like to take this opportunity to publicly recognize the tremendous accomplishments of these students. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulates Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School seniors, Ms. Kizzi Staley, Ms. Tiffany Bochette, Mr. Julian Alston, and Mr. Benjamin Singleton on receiving state, national, and international recognition for their artistic talents.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Walter Tobin, Superintendent, Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five.
