H. 5051
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO HONOR AND REMEMBER THE SUPREME SACRIFICE MADE BY SERGEANT EDWARD PHILPOT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA NATIONAL GUARD, WHILE HE WAS SERVING A TOUR OF MILITARY DUTY IN AFGHANISTAN, AND TO EXPRESS TO HIS WIFE AND FAMILY THE DEEPEST APPRECIATION OF A GRATEFUL STATE AND NATION FOR HIS LIFE, SACRIFICE, AND SERVICE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, on behalf of all South Carolinians, acknowledge with deep appreciation the great sacrifice that our nation's men and women in uniform make for the ideals of freedom and justice so richly enjoyed in this country; and
Whereas, born and raised in Garden City, Michigan, Edward Philpot graduated from the University of South Carolina, and after graduation he moved to Manchester, Kentucky, to be near family members; and
Whereas, he moved to Latta thirteen years ago after marrying his beloved wife Stephanie, and they have three daughters, Hollen, Lily, and Ella Grace; and
Whereas, answering the call of his country to serve in Afghanistan with the First Battalion of the 263rd Armored Regiment of the South Carolina National Guard's 218th Combat Brigade based in Mullins, Sergeant Edward Philpot left his family and home in Latta, South Carolina; and
Whereas, on Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at the age of thirty-eight, Sergeant Philpot was serving as a scout with part of a convoy operating northwest of Kandahar in southern Afghanistan when he lost his life for the cause of freedom; and
Whereas, there is no greater or braver sacrifice for a man to make for his country than to lay down his life; and
Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is honored to remember the life and sacrifice of one of South Carolina's brave sons and heroes, Sergeant Edward Philpot; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly express to the family of Sergeant Philpot their profound gratitude for his life, his sacrifice, and his service. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and remember the supreme sacrifice made by Sergeant Edward Philpot of the South Carolina National Guard, while he was serving a tour of military duty in Afghanistan, and express to his wife and family the deepest appreciation of a grateful State and nation for his life, sacrifice, and service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Stephanie Philpot.
