S*0675 Resolution, By Setzler
A Senate Resolution to commend Olivia Ortmann, a teacher at Bates Middle
School in Sumter, upon being awarded a certificate by the National Board for
Professional Teaching Standards recognizing her achievements and
accomplishments as a professional educator.
03/28/95 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-12
A SENATE
RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND OLIVIA ORTMANN, A TEACHER AT BATES
MIDDLE SCHOOL IN SUMTER, UPON BEING AWARDED A
CERTIFICATE BY THE NATIONAL BOARD FOR
PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS RECOGNIZING
HER ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS A
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR.
Whereas, the members of the Senate are very pleased to learn that
Olivia Ortmann, a teacher at Bates Middle School in Sumter, has
been awarded a certificate by the National Board for Professional
Teaching Standards; and
Whereas, she is one of only eighty-one teachers in the United States
who became nationally board certified by this prestigious
organization, six of whom reside in South Carolina; and
Whereas, the board awards certificates to individuals who
successfully meet the very high standards for national certification.
The national certification program of the board recognizes teaching
professionals who have been judged by their peers to be highly
accomplished educators in a variety of settings, who have
demonstrated the ability to make sound professional judgments
about their students' best interests, and who have shown the ability
to act effectively on those judgments; and
Whereas, South Carolina is indeed fortunate to have six teachers
from our State who were certified by the board, and this is
indicative of the fact that South Carolina's teachers are committed
to their students, know the subject matter they teach, and have the
ability to communicate to their students this subject matter through
a number of teaching strategies; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like
to publicly recognize and commend Ms. Ortmann upon her receipt
of this certification which attests to the fact that she is a highly
accomplished and very effective teacher. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate hereby commend Olivia Ortmann, a
teacher at Bates Middle School in Sumter, upon being awarded a
certificate by the National Board for Professional Teaching
Standards recognizing her achievements and accomplishments as a
professional educator.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Ms. Ortmann.
