A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING JACOB SVENSSON OF LANDER
UNIVERSITY FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS AS
A MEMBER OF LANDER'S 1997 NCAA DIVISION II
NATIONAL MENS TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.
Whereas, Jacob Svensson was an outstanding member of Lander
University's 1997 NCAA Division II National Mens Tennis
Championship Team; and
Whereas, his and his teammates' prowess led the team to their
seventh consecutive national team title, ninth national title in thirteen
years, and sixth consecutive NCAA Division II Peach Belt Athletic
Conference Championship; and
Whereas, the 1997 squad excelled academically by accumulating a
team grade point ratio of 3.4 out of a possible 4.0 with five seniors
ending the year with grade point ratios exceeding 3.7 and earning
membership in Alpha Chi national honor fraternity and Sigma Beta
Delta business honor society and five players receiving NCAA
Academic All-American status; and
Whereas, the team's individual and collective athletic and academic
successes are positive role models for student-athletes across our
State and reflect the principles of excellence and integrity instilled by
their coach, Joseph Cabri; and
Whereas, the team's success has brought great honor to Lander
University, the Greenwood community, and South Carolina, and the
team is highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, commends Jacob Svensson of Lander University for his
outstanding contributions as a member of Lander's 1997 NCAA
Division II National Mens Tennis Championship Team.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. Jacob Svensson.
