A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND THE CRESCENT HIGH SCHOOL "LADY TIGERS" SOFTBALL TEAM ON ITS TREMENDOUS SEASON OF SPIRITED COMPETITION AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES ON WINNING THE 2000 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Whereas, the 2000 Crescent High School "Lady Tigers" softball team, led by Coach Gary Adams, put together the right combination of skill, hard work, and determination to win the 2000 Class AA State Championship, giving the team its sixteenth state title; and

Whereas, the Crescent High School softball team ended the season with an astounding record of twenty-eight wins and four losses and having won the State Championship, added to the national records held by the "Lady Tigers" of Most Consecutive Wins at eleven and Most State Championships at sixteen; and

Whereas, the "Lady Tigers" had a remarkable season of exciting play and fierce competition and excelled in the post season by prevailing in the Region 2-A Championship, winning the District I Championship and defeating Pendleton High School to claim the Upper-State title and earn the right to play Batesburg-Leesville in the Class AA State Championship; and

Whereas, the "Lady Tigers" outscored Batesburg-Leesville seven to one to win the first game in the best-of-three game championship, and the team, after being down five to four in game two, had a run scoring single in the bottom of the fifth inning that gave Crescent a six to five lead, with the "Lady Tigers" holding on to win the game and their sixteen State championship; and

Whereas, the "Lady Tigers" were led by three talented seniors in pitcher LeAnne Gray, first baseman Dana McMullan, and right fielder Becky Dickerson, and Ms. Gray was named an All-State player as well as the High School Sports and Coaches Association for Women's Sports AA Player of the Year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives commend the Crescent High School "Lady Tigers" softball team on its tremendous season of spirited competition and congratulate the players and coaches on winning the 2000 AA State Championship.
