A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON AND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING EFFORT IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT.

Whereas, the South Carolina State Bulldogs Men's Basketball Team earned their second trip to the NCAA Tournament in only seven seasons by winning the 25th annual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament; and

Whereas, the Bulldogs defeated regular season co-champion Coppin State 69-56 in the title game; and

Whereas, the Bulldogs led the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in defense and rebounding; and

Whereas, the Bulldogs, led by coach Cy Alexander, compiled a record of 22 wins and seven losses, remaining undefeated in 13 home games; and

Whereas, the Bulldogs put together an eight-game winning streak in one stretch and then went on to win 18 of their last 21 games this season; and

Whereas, the Bulldogs finished first in the American Sports Wire Poll for Division I Historical Black Colleges; and

Whereas, the Bulldogs placed two players on the All-MEAC team and placed three players on the MEAC All-Tournament Team; and

Whereas, coach Cy Alexander was named MEAC Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, due to the dedication and desire to succeed, the Bulldogs have reflected well upon the State of South Carolina and South Carolina State University; and

Whereas, the drive and determination of the Bulldogs to be winners should be an inspiration to us all; and

Whereas, Coach Alexander and the members of the men's basketball team showed South Carolina what team work can do; and

Whereas, the Members of the General Assembly would like to publicly recognize and congratulate each player, member of the staff, and each coach for an outstanding season and their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament, and recognizes their tremendous effort in the Tournament. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly commend the South Carolina State Bulldogs Men's Basketball Team and all who helped in the team's efforts for a job well done and wish them every success in the basketball seasons to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Leroy Davis, President of South Carolina State University, Dr. Oscar P. Butler, Director of Athletics, and Cy Alexander, Head Basketball Coach.
