A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THE DISTINGUISHED
CAREER IN EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE OF
MRS. DAISY B. ALEXANDER OF CAMDEN IN KERSHAW
COUNTY.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly note with great
appreciation and pride the distinguished career in education, church
and community service, and long list of accomplishments, awards,
and recognition of Mrs. Daisy B. Alexander of Camden in Kershaw
County; and
Whereas, Mrs. Alexander, a graduate of Voorhees College in
Denmark, received a Master of Arts degree from New York
University and pursued additional postgraduate studies at Benedict
College, Morris College, and the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mrs. Alexander, a retired teacher of mathematics, put her
education to work as a classroom teacher for forty years, during
which she also served for fifteen years as adult education
coordinator and was named Teacher of the Year, and after
retirement continued to employ her teaching skills as a mathematics
tutor at Morris College in Sumter for seven years and in one-on-one
and group tutoring for elementary and high school students working
below grade level; and
Whereas, Mrs. Alexander is an active member of Sanders Creek
Baptist Church in Camden, where she served as secretary for a
number of years. Presently she is the building fund secretary, vice
president of the Missionary Society, supervisor of the Senior Usher
Board, secretary of the Ministers-Deacons and Trustees Wives
Auxiliary, and a member of the Willing Workers Club and
organizer of the Young People Christian Club. She is supervisor of
Mt. Moriah Association Ushers Convention, and president of the
South Carolina State Ushers Convention; and
Whereas, Mrs. Alexander is a member of Composite Chapter
No.227, O.E.S. and past District 3 Associate Matron, O.E.S. She
was appointed by former Governor Riley as a member of the State
Social Services Advisory Committee; she was organizer and a
former board member of Kershaw County Council on Aging. She
presently serves as a member of Wateree Community Actions
Agency and a board member of Kershaw County Cancer Society, a
former member of the Board of Directors for Kershaw County
Vocational Center, member of Kershaw County Mental Health
Association, member of the Trustee Board of Morris College,
Sumter, South Carolina, and chairperson of the Board of Directors
of Kirkwood Community Organization; and
Whereas, she is married to Clifton Alexander and is the mother of
one daughter, one adopted daughter, one son, one grandson, and
one granddaughter; and
Whereas, it is appropriate that the members of the General
Assembly pause in their deliberations to note the service and
accomplishments of so distinguished a daughter of South Carolina.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
express their heartfelt appreciation for the distinguished career in
education and community service to Mrs. Daisy B. Alexander of
Camden in Kershaw County.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to
Mrs. Alexander.
