A SENATE RESOLUTION TO CONGRATULATE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE JOHN W. DRUMMOND AND
MRS. HOLLY DRUMMOND ON THE SPECIAL OCCASION OF THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING
ANNIVERSARY, AND EXTEND THEM BEST WISHES FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF HAPPINESS
TOGETHER.
06/05/97 Senate Introduced and adopted SJ-9
A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE JOHN W.
DRUMMOND AND MRS. HOLLY DRUMMOND ON THE
SPECIAL OCCASION OF THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING
ANNIVERSARY, AND EXTEND THEM BEST WISHES FOR
MANY MORE YEARS OF HAPPINESS TOGETHER.
Whereas, Senator John W. Drummond and Josephine Holloway
"Miss Holly" Self were married on June 12, 1947, at the Callie Self
Memorial Baptist Church in Greenwood, South Carolina; and
Whereas, Miss Holly and Senator Drummond met and grew up
together in the small town of Ninety-Six, South Carolina; and
Whereas, Senator Drummond thought Miss Holly, a star of the
Ninety-Six High School girl's basketball team that won the state
championship, to be the most intelligent, good-hearted and beautiful
woman he had ever witnessed; and
Whereas, Miss Holly, a distinguished graduate of Winthrop College,
and our President Pro Tempore John Drummond, an Air Force
veteran and a promising young businessman, were the perfect couple
destined for many years of happiness; and
Whereas, John Drummond's patriotic duty in World War II and his
trying time in a Prisoner of War Camp was sustained by always
keeping Miss Holly, affectionately known to him as "Mamie", in his
thoughts and prayers; and
Whereas, Senator John and Mrs. Holly Drummond are proud of their
family which includes three children, Brick, twins Bob and Dick and
granddaughter Holly Ann; and
Whereas, Senator Drummond would have not been able to become
one of the most dedicated and revered public servants in the history
of South Carolina without the support of Miss Holly, his wife and
confidant; and
Whereas, Senator John and Mrs. Holly Drummond over the years
continue to exemplify a true partnership of husband and wife and
together have always put God and family as the two most important
priorities in life. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by
this resolution, hereby congratulate our President Pro Tempore,
Senator John W. Drummond and his wife, Mrs. Holly Drummond on
the special occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary on June 12,
1997, and extend them best wishes for many more years together.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Senator and Mrs. John W. Drummond.
