CONGRATULATING LAUREN LUCAS OF
BROOKLAND-CAYCE HIGH SCHOOL OF LEXINGTON
COUNTY ON BEING NAMED ONE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S
TOP TWO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT VOLUNTEERS IN "THE
PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARDS"
PROGRAM.
Whereas, Lauren Lucas, sixteen-year-old student at Brookland-Cayce
High School in Lexington County, has been named one of the
Palmetto State's top two youth volunteers in "The Prudential Spirit
of Community Awards", a nationwide program recognizing young
people for outstanding, self-initiated community service;
Whereas, Ms. Lucas established Kids Accepting Challenges Today
(Kids A.C.T.), a community service organization providing flexible
and varied projects for interested young people; and
Whereas, Ms. Lucas will receive a $1,000 award, a silver medallion,
and a trip to Washington, D.C., for a series of special recognition
events in May, 1998; and
Whereas, Ms. Lucas is an outstanding young woman whose efforts
have helped many children; her care and her concern for others, as
well as her talent at putting into practice a worthwhile program to
help others, are highly deserving of recognition. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, congratulates Lauren Lucas of Brookland-Cayce High
School of Lexington County on being named one of South Carolina's
top two high school student volunteers in "The Prudential Spirit of
Community Awards" program.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Ms. Lucas.
