RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE MACK WILLIE RHODES AS A TRUE PUBLIC
SERVANT AND OUTSTANDING SOUTH CAROLINIAN ON
THE OCCASION OF HIS ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY ON
FEBRUARY 25, 1998.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned that
Mr. Mack Willie Rhodes will proudly celebrate his one hundredth
birthday on February 25, 1998; and
Whereas, Mr. Rhodes was born in Sardinia, South Carolina, on
February 25, 1898, to Mr. Robert and Mrs. Adranna Olivia Williams
Rhodes; and
Whereas, Mr. Rhodes is genuinely appreciated and loved by his
wonderful family and is addressed affectionately as "Papa" by his
eight living children, thirty-six grandchildren, thirty-seven
great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and
Whereas, Mr. Rhodes' favorite pastimes are reading the Bible and
other religious literature, watching "The Today Show", the evening
news and Atlanta Braves' games; and
Whereas, Mr. Rhodes joined the Golden Gate Masonic Lodge
Number 78 in 1938 where he served as Senior Warden for many
years and the Order of the Eastern Star St. Mary's Chapter Number
156 where he served as Patron; and
Whereas, Mr. Rhodes has been a faithful member of Melina
Presbyterian Church since 1915 where he has served as an elder for
many years; and
Whereas, Mr. Rhodes also served as Sunday School Superintendent
of Melina and Goodwill Presbyterian Churches; and
Whereas, Mr. Rhodes' life, including his many endeavors and
achievements, has been and continues to be a role model for others
throughout the community, State and nation; and
Whereas, Mr. Rhodes is a true public servant who has always put the
needs of his family, his community and his church before his own.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize Mr.
Mack Willie Rhodes as a true public servant and outstanding South
Carolinian on the special occasion of his one hundredth birthday and
wish him happiness in many more years to come.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. Mack Willie Rhodes.
