 FROM APRIL 9-18, 1999), AND WISHING MANY MORE YEARS OF SUCCESS TO THE FESTIVAL
 ORGANIZERS AND GOOD CITIZENS OF CLARENDON COUNTY.

SALUTING THE CLARENDON COUNTY STRIPED BASS FESTIVAL ON THE OCCASION OF THE FESTIVAL'S TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY (TO BE HELD THIS YEAR FROM APRIL 9-18, 1999), AND WISHING MANY MORE YEARS OF SUCCESS TO THE FESTIVAL ORGANIZERS AND GOOD CITIZENS OF CLARENDON COUNTY.

Whereas, marking its twentieth anniversary in 1999, the Clarendon County Striped Bass Festival is a celebration of spring, a tribute to the beauty of Clarendon County, and a special salute to the striped bass, the species of fish that put the Santee Cooper lakes on the fishing map of the world. The festival was begun with funds acquired from the State Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism by the then Clarendon County legislative delegation composed of Senator John C. Land, III, Representatives C. Alex Harvin, III and Charles L. Griffin, III; and

Whereas, Clarendon County borders Lake Marion, the upper lake of the Santee Cooper lakes; that is probably reason enough to celebrate with a festival each spring; however, the festival is also a fitting, fun way to bring together the citizens of Clarendon County and the many wonderful visitors from across the Palmetto State and the nation who make it a point to attend each year; and

Whereas, the twentieth anniversary festival from April 9-18, 1999, includes dances, entertainment, the arts, fireworks, and a host of other highly enjoyable activities and events; the festival organizers always plan "something for everyone"; judging by the size of the crowds, the organizers are definitely doing things right, because, for the 1999 festival, at least 35,000 people are expected to attend; and

Whereas, the festival committee members include the following: Shelley Rhodes of Manning, Cheryl Spiers of Santee, Chief Randy Garrett of the City of Manning Police Department, Dr. Scott Brown of Manning, Jake Buddin of Manning, G.G. Cutter of Manning, Bon Gardner of Manning, Mitchell Gardner of Manning, Doug Ridgeway of Manning, Dennis Kropf of Manning, James (Scott) Beasley of Manning, Larry Hewett of Manning, Buck Sprott of Manning, Barry Ham of Manning, Libby Osborne of Manning, Ron Wall of Manning, Jack Justice of Summerton, Mary Smith of Sumter, John Brassard of Manning, Jerry Brown of Manning, Dave Brandt of Manning, Bobby Snowden of Manning, David Lane of Manning, Debbie Brumble of Lake City, Gloria Joseph of Alcolu, and Debbie Greenall of Summerton; and

Whereas, the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce officers and board of directors include the following for 1999: Mitch Gardner of Manning (president), Scott Brown of Manning (president-elect), Buck Sprott of Manning (past president), Henrietta (Henri) Campbell of Summerton (chamber director), Rosalee Dunston of Summerton (chamber secretary), Ron Wall of Manning (director), Pat Williams of Santee (director), and T. F. Coffey of Manning, (director); the Class of 2000: Linda McElveen of Turbeville (director), Matthew Prince of Manning (director), Townes Walker of Manning (director), and George Summers of Manning (director); and the Class of 2001: Jeffrey Black of Manning (director), Ann Kirven of Manning (director), Joey Moore of Manning (director), and Michael Dr. (Rock) Ouzts of Manning (director); and

Whereas, the Striped Bass Festival is one of the premier events in South Carolina annually and is one of the most well-thought-of and respected festivals in the nation; and

Whereas, the hard work, vision, dedication, and planning that go into the festival each year make it an event that is always happily remembered by all who attend it; and

Whereas, we are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize and salute this outstanding festival on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the Sate of South Carolina, by this resolution, salutes the Clarendon County Striped Bass Festival on the occasion of the festival's twentieth anniversary (to be held this year from April 9-18, 1999) and wishes many more years of success to the festival organizers and the good citizens of Clarendon County.

Be it further resolved that copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce and the Striped Bass Festival Committee.
