A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO THE DANIEL HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITIVE CHEER SQUAD OF CENTRAL, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON WINNING THE 1998 STATE CLASS AAA COMPETITION AND BEING NAMED STATE CHAMPIONS.

Whereas, the Daniel High School Competitive Cheer Squad has had a record 1998-1999 season; and

Whereas, the squad richly deserves to be recognized for the hours of hard work and practice they have put in through the year; and

Whereas, in four different competitions before the state championship, this group of dedicated and determined young women were awarded first place in the Class AAA Division; and these competitions were the Greenwave Invitational, the Bulldog Invitational, the Coaches Classic, and the Lake Murray Invitational; and

Whereas, the state competition was held on December 18, 1999, and the Daniel High School Competitive Cheer Squad continued their winning streak and came away with the state championship in the Class AAA Division; and

Whereas, their head coach, Carole Oakley, is very deserving of the honor she received when she was selected as this year's South Carolina Competitive Cheer Coach of the Year by the South Carolina Coaches Association; and

Whereas, the success of the squad is also intricately tied to the efforts of the two assistant cheerleading coaches, Kelli Holcombe and Christine Lightsey; and

Whereas, the members of the squad who have been so ably trained by this coaching staff, and who have exhibited such tremendous team spirit are: Ashley Bailey, Summer Barnes, Brandi Black, Angie Conner, Rebecca Dickerson, Erin Gregg, Amanda Link, Michelle Petree, Melinda Heilman, Caroline Oates, Blythe Scott, Kris Carraway, Caroline Carson, Jo Holly Funchess, Katy Gregg, Ashley Smith, Alana Winters, LeAndra Garner, Allison Miller, and Brittany Shealy; and

Whereas, in recognition of this talented group of young women representing the Daniel High School "Lions", the members of the General Assembly wish to publicly recognize and congratulate them on their tremendous victory. Now therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina express their congratulations to the Daniel High School Competitive Cheer Squad of Central, South Carolina, on winning the 1998 State Class AAA competition and being named State Champions.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Carole Oakley.
