 THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF DOROTHY "DOT" WILLIAMS SMITH AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dorothy "Dot" Williams Smith

on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the age of eighty-seven; and

Whereas, Dot was the widow of former State Senator Horace C. Smith; and

Whereas, born November 8, 1923, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Charles Vernon and Flora Teal Williams; and

Whereas, she was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, charter member of Fernwood Baptist Church, member of Morningside Baptist Church, member of the Palmetto Cabinet, former member of Spartanburg Legal Auxiliary, volunteer for the Spartanburg Heart Association, volunteer for the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and recipient of ADA's Lifetime Achievement Award; and

Whereas, she leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Cynthia S. Holland; two sons, David C. Smith and Stephen H. Smith; granddaughters, Amanda S. Wolfe, Jennifer Smith, Lindsey Smith Batavia, and Kesler Belmont; grandsons, Stephen H. Smith, Jr., Nicholas L. Belmont, Jr.; step-grandsons, John, William and Joseph Holland; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances W. Ballard. She was predeceased by a son, Dennis Charles Smith. She will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Dorothy "Dot" Williams Smith and to extend their deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Dot Smith.
