A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND EXTEND SINCERE GRATITUDE FROM
THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MR.
CLIVE CUSSLER FOR HIS DISCOVERY OF THE H. L. HUNLEY
AND FOR HIS CONTINUING DEVOTION TO THE HUNLEY
AND ITS CREW.
Whereas, Mr. Clive Cussler is a noted author with a love of maritime
history and shipwreck exploration; and
Whereas, Mr. Cussler's energy and personal funds enabled the search
for the H.L. Hunley to continue for many years despite any tangible
achievements; and
Whereas, these efforts by Mr. Cussler culminated in the discovery of
the Hunley by his National Underwater & Marine Agency
(NUMA) group in 1995. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly and the people of South
Carolina and the world who are interested in this seminal piece of
maritime history owe Mr. Clive Cussler a debt of gratitude for his
discovery of the H. L. Hunley, and for his ongoing help in completing
the journey home of the Hunley and her crew which began its
expedition on February 17, 1864.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mr. Clive Cussler.
