A Bill to amend Section 16-13-110, as amended, Code of Laws of South Carolina,
1976, relating to shoplifting, so as to increase the maximum fine penalty for
conviction for shoplifting merchandise valued at less than fifty dollars from

AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 16-13-110, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976,
RELATING TO SHOPLIFTING, SO AS TO INCREASE THE MAXIMUM FINE PENALTY FOR
CONVICTION FOR SHOPLIFTING MERCHANDISE VALUED AT LESS THAN FIFTY DOLLARS FROM ONE
HUNDRED TO TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Penalty
SECTION 1. Item (1) of subsection (B) of Section 16-13-110 of the 1976 Code is
amended to read:
"(1) By a fine of not more than six hundred dollars or imprisonment
for not more than six months, or both, for the first offense. If the value of
the shoplifted merchandise is less than fifty dollars, the punishment must be a
fine of not more than two hundred dollars or imprisonment for not more than
thirty days."
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor. |
