A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXTENDING THE WARMEST SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY WELCOME TO PHILLIP HARTLEB FROM JENA, GERMANY, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS VISIT TO COLUMBIA, ONE OF THE STATE'S "BEAUTIFUL PLACES", IN HIS CAPACITY AS PRESIDENT OF PHIL'S WORLD TRAVEL, AND DEMONSTRATING TO HIM FIRSTHAND THE SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY FOUND IN SOUTH CAROLINA'S "SMILING FACES".

Whereas, Phillip Hartleb of Jena, Germany, is President of Phil's World Travel; and

Whereas, he is visiting Columbia in that capacity in hopes of adding the Capital City and our fair State of South Carolina as a tourist destination for his patrons; and

Whereas, tourism is the top industry in South Carolina, a state that offers unparalleled variety within its borders; and

Whereas, South Carolina's beauty stretches from the sparkling streams flowing through its lush mountains to the sandy beaches kissed by the warmth of the Atlantic Ocean; and

Whereas, Mr. Hartleb can woo his clients with exciting tales of golf and horse races, ballet and opera houses, shopping and rose gardens in this State; and

Whereas, Columbia represents the heart of the State, both as the seat of its government, housed in awesome granite and marble splendor; and also as its geographic midpoint, offering among its benefits to its citizens the much-loved Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens, numerous historical and art museums, exciting minor league professional baseball, respected and compassionate health care, Women's Olympic Marathon trials, the proud presence of Fort Jackson, and a two-hundred-year tradition of education, research, and service at the University of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly extend a warm South Carolina welcome to Phillip Hartleb from Jena, Germany, on the occasion of his visit to Columbia, one of the State's "Beautiful Places", in his capacity as President of Phil's World Travel, and demonstrate to him firsthand the Southern hospitality found in South Carolina's "Smiling Faces".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to him on the occasion of his visit March 28, 2001, to the South Carolina State House during the first session of the one hundred fourteenth South Carolina General Assembly.
