 A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE WILSON'S FIVE CENTS TO ONE DOLLAR STORE ON THE
 OCCASION OF ITS CLOSING AND TO EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
 SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO REDUS AND CHARLIE MARTIN FOR
 SERVING THE BELTON COMMUNITY.

TO RECOGNIZE WILSON'S FIVE CENTS TO ONE DOLLAR STORE ON THE OCCASION OF ITS CLOSING AND TO EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO REDUS AND CHARLIE MARTIN FOR SERVING THE BELTON COMMUNITY.

Whereas, with mixed emotions, the members of the House of Representatives have learned that Redus and Charlie Martin closed the doors to Wilson's five cent to one dollar store, in Belton, on Saturday, May 29, 2004; and

Whereas, the closing marks the end for a business that has proudly served the people of Belton for seventy-seven years; and

Whereas, the store's closing will leave a void for many residents who could always rely on Wilson's to find the things they need; and

Whereas, the business first opened as a Ben Franklin chain store under the ownership of longtime Belton businessman H.F. Hanks in 1927; and

Whereas, when Mr. Hanks passed away in 1940, his nephew W.A. Wilson purchased the store. When Mr. Wilson returned home from World War II in 1945, he resumed management and changed the name to Wilson's five cent to one dollar store; and

Whereas, in the 1950's the store expanded into the Greenville market and currently the Stoddard Family, of Greenville, manages four Wilson's stores in the Greenville area; and

Whereas, generation after generation of local residents shopped, met new friends, and socialized with old friends at Wilson's; and

Whereas, many residences have fond memories of the store which became an integral part of the community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representative hereby recognize Wilson's Five Cents to One Dollar Store on the occasion of its closing and express their gratitude to Redus and Charlie Martin for serving the Belton Community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Redus and Charlie Martin.
