5/27/2008

H. 5210

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND GIRL SCOUT KATIE REBECCA WILSON, OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, FOR A MERITORIOUS CAREER IN SCOUTING, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that the Girl Scout Council Panel approved Katie Rebecca Wilson for the Girl Scout Gold Award after she successfully completed the requirements in May 2008; and

Whereas, a twelve-year member of the Girl Scouts, she is the daughter of Jayda and John Wilson, a junior at Lexington High School, and a member of Mount Hebron United Methodist Church; and

Whereas, before beginning the Gold Award Project, Katie Wilson had already completed three interest projects pertaining to the Girl Scout Laws, the Senior Girl Scout Challenge, a Studio 2Bs Challenge, a 4Bs Challenge, the Senior Leadership Award and the Gold Career Exploration Award; and

Whereas, her Gold Award Project was Ronald McDonald House Compassion Meals, which included far more than providing and serving hot meals to the guests at the Ronald McDonald House; and

Whereas, with two other Girl Scouts in her troop, she created a master-menu book of twenty-two menu pages, each with a planned menu, recipes, shopping lists, and a budget, to be used by the staff and volunteers. The girls spoke to various community groups to encourage participation, conducted a workshop for younger girls to impart their passion for cooking, and shared their book with Ronald McDonald Houses throughout the Southeast; and

Whereas, Katie's mother and Girl Scout Leader Jayda Wilson used her own skills and experience to mentor her daughter and two other Senior Girl Scouts in Troop 211 from Mount Hebron United Methodist Church through the rigors of the Gold Award Project to help them learn the benefits of organized and deliberate service to others; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful to Katie Rebecca Wilson for the work she has done for the citizens of her community and the role model she is for young people of our State, and they look to hear of future successes from this talented young woman. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Girl Scout Katie Rebecca Wilson, of Lexington County, for a meritorious career in scouting, and congratulate her upon the successful completion of the requirements for the Girl Scout Gold Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Katie Rebecca Wilson.
