A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 57-1-95 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO CONSTRUCT PreviousSPEEDNext BUMPS IN CERTAIN LOCATIONS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 57-1-95. The Department of Highways and Public Transportation shall construct PreviousspeedNext bumps for the control of traffic flow on roads which the department is required to maintain. The PreviousspeedNext bumps must be located within fifty yards of a stop sign and within fifty yards of an intersection at which a motor vehicle accident has occurred. The department shall erect signs within one hundred yards of each PreviousspeedNext bump warning of the bump."

SECTION 2. The intersection requirement for the construction of PreviousspeedNext bumps in Section 57-1-95 of the 1976 Code added in Section 1 applies to motor vehicle accidents which have occurred within three years of the effective date of this act and after that time. The stop sign requirement for the construction of Previousspeed bumps applies to stop signs existing on the effective date and those erected after that time.

SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
