H. 4607

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE NORTHWESTERN HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2015 CLASS AAAA DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Northwestern High School football team of York County took top honors at the state competition held at Williams Brice Stadium on Saturday, December 12, 2015; and

Whereas, before a jubilant stadium, the Northwestern Trojans delighted their fans with a fifty-point margin over the Lexington High School Wildcats, the largest margin in the Palmetto State for a class AAAA championship football game; and

Whereas, the Northwestern team had a stupendous 42-7 lead when the teams hit the locker room at halftime. The Trojans continued to rush, pass, and pound their way to a 63-13 victory over Lexington, tying for the highest score in a South Carolina championship football game and ending their season with an 14-1 record; and

Whereas, garnering the team's third title since 2010, Northwestern held the Lexington Wildcats to under one hundred yards rushing while the Trojans' Gage Moloney threw for 275 yards that netted five touchdowns; and

Whereas, Gage Moloney carried the ball eight times for another 40 yards, which added a sixth touchdown, and teammate Jerry Howard carried eighteen times for 148 yards, just over nine yards per carry and resulting in two touchdowns. Miles Corpening added a first-quarter touchdown with a 54-yard return on an interception; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands intensity, proficiency, and grit, Head Coach Kyle Richardson and his experienced coaching staff maximized their own athletic abilities and training to hone a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will grow more valuable throughout life; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the respect and recognition that the Northwestern football players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued success in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Northwestern High School varsity football team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2015 Class AAAA Division II State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal James A. Blake II and Coach Kyle Richardson.
