THE COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY
To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S. 199), to extend
until May 1, 1997, the time in which the study committee established
to formulate recommendations concerning the magisterial system,
etc., respectfully
REPORT:
That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and
recommend that the same do pass with amendment:
Amend the resolution, as and if amended, by adding a new
paragraph at the end to read:
/Be it further resolved that the membership of the Magistrates Study
Committee shall be expanded to include one additional member
appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and one
additional member appointed by the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary
Committee./
Amend further, as and if amended, by striking the title and
inserting:
/TO EXTEND UNTIL MAY 1, 1997, THE TIME IN WHICH THE
STUDY COMMITTEE ESTABLISHED TO FORMULATE
RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING THE MAGISTERIAL

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND UNTIL MAY 1, 1997, THE TIME IN WHICH THE
STUDY COMMITTEE ESTABLISHED TO FORMULATE
RECOMMENDATIONS CONCERNING THE MAGISTERIAL
SYSTEM IN SOUTH CAROLINA HAS TO PRESENT ITS
REPORT TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, AND TO EXPAND
THE MEMBERSHIP OF THIS COMMITTEE.
Whereas, the Magistrates Study Committee, established in 1996 by
current resolution S. 1432, requires additional time in order to receive
information from the Summary Court Judges Association and other
groups that are preparing studies to submit to the committee. Now,
therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring:
That the time in which the Magistrates Study Committee shall submit
its report to the General Assembly be extended from the beginning of
the 1997 Legislative Session to May 1, 1997, at which time the
committee then shall be dissolved.
Be it further resolved that the membership of the Magistrates Study
Committee shall be expanded to include one additional member
appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and one
additional member appointed by the Chairman of the Senate Judiciary
Committee.
