A JOINT RESOLUTION TO CREATE A COMMITTEE TO
STUDY THE FEASIBILITY OF IMPLEMENTING A MASS
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM FOR THE STATE, AND TO PROVIDE
FOR THE COMPOSITION AND PURPOSE OF THE COMMITTEE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
State Mass Transportation Study Committee
SECTION 1. A committee is created to study the feasibility of
creating a mass transportation system for the State of South Carolina. The
committee shall develop a plan, should the feasibility study determine
appropriate measures, to implement practical forms of mass transportation
to enhance the economic opportunitites of all South Carolinians.
The committee is composed of the:
(1) Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee, or his
designee;
(2) Chairman of the House Education and Public Works
Committee, or his designee;
(3) Executive Director of the Department of Transportation, or his
designee;
(4) President of the South Carolina Association of Councils on
Aging Directors, or his designee;
(5) Executive Director of the State Budget and Control Board, or
his designee; and
(6) President of the Transportation Association of South Carolina,
or his designee.
The committee shall elect one of its members as chairman and other
necessary officers. The committee shall meet as often as necessary for the
discharge of its business before making its report to the General
Assembly.
The members of the committee shall not receive per diem,
subsistence, or reimbursement for mileage. The committee shall use the
existing staff of the entities from which the membership of the committee
is composed.
The committee shall report its findings to the General Assembly one
year after the adoption of this resolution. At that time, the committee
must be dissolved.
Time effective
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by
the Governor.
