A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND THANKING THE SOUTH CAROLINA

THEIR ADVERTISING TIMENext DURING "TRAVEL AND TOURISM MONTH" - NOVEMBER 2001.

01/15/02 Senate Introduced, adopted, sent to House SJ-15

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

COMMENDING AND THANKING THE SOUTH CAROLINA BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION AND THE SOUTH CAROLINA PRESS ASSOCIATION FOR DONATING THEIR ADVERTISING PreviousTIMENext DURING "TRAVEL AND TOURISM MONTH" - NOVEMBER 2001.

Whereas, on November 1, 2001, the Governor of South Carolina signed a proclamation designating November 2001 to be "Travel and Tourism Month" in the Palmetto State; at that PrevioustimeNext the Governor also unveiled a public service media campaign designed to encourage South Carolinians to travel within the State and to "Rediscover South Carolina"; and

Whereas, the State Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism oversaw the creation of television and radio spots, plus a newspaper ad, encouraging South Carolinians to visit family and friends, to eat at South Carolina restaurants, and to explore state parks, thereby supporting tourism, the state's top industry; and

Whereas, financial considerations required the State Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism to request that all the PrevioustimeNext and space to run these public service ads be donated; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Broadcasters Association and the South Carolina Press Association responded in an overwhelming fashion; air PrevioustimeNext and ad space valued at over five hundred thousand dollars was donated for this public service campaign by radio and television stations and newspapers in the State; and

Whereas, the recovery of the state's tourism industry in the aftermath of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, is due in large part to the media outlets' generously donating so much air PrevioustimeNext and ad space to this very important, PrevioustimelyNext public service campaign. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and thank the South Carolina Broadcasters Association and the South Carolina Press Association for donating their advertising Previoustime during "Travel and Tourism Month" - November 2001.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the South Carolina Broadcasters Association and the South Carolina Press Association.
