S. 803

A SENATE RESOLUTION

HONORING AND RECOGNIZING MRS. LYNN HOOVER OF RIDGEVILLE WHO SELFLESSLY DONATED HER KIDNEY TO HER CO-WORKER'S BROTHER, AND COMMENDING MRS. HOOVER ON HER OVERWHELMING KINDNESS AND GENEROSITY.

Whereas, Lynn Hoover's act of selflessness in donating a kidney is one which is rarely seen in today's world and her fearlessness and kind heart are to be admired by all; and

Whereas, in June 2000, Mr. Ed Parler, of Greenville, South Carolina, inexplainably lost complete use of both of his kidneys and for nearly two years he received dialysis treatments for four hours a day, three days a week; and

Whereas, Mr. Parler became increasingly fatigued from the dialysis treatments and it was determined that he would not survive without a kidney transplant; and

Whereas, Mr. Parler's sister, Mrs. Lynn TindalNext, worked with Mrs. Lynn Hoover as a teacher at Berkeley Middle School and Mrs. PreviousTindalNext and Mrs. Hoover have been friends for twenty-seven years; and

Whereas, while Mrs. PreviousTindalNext and Mrs. Hoover have been co-workers for many years, Mrs. PreviousTindalNext did not expressly tell Mrs. Hoover about her brother; and

Whereas, during an early-morning prayer meeting, a teacher asked the group to pray for Mrs. PreviousTindal's brother, Ed, who needed a kidney transplant; and

Whereas, after consulting with her family, Mrs. Hoover went through a series of tests that determined that she was a perfect match for Mr. Parler and the surgery was set to take place on June 4, 2002; and

Whereas, just five days before Mr. Parler's birthday, he met Mrs. Hoover for the first time, an emotional time for both; and they prepared for surgery together; and

Whereas, the operation was a success and today Mr. Parler is fully recovered and as active as ever; and

Whereas, Mrs. Lynn Hoover, through her act of kindness and selflessness, was able to share the gift of life with Mr. Parler, whom she had never met prior to the surgery, and has become a hero for everyone in Berkeley County; and

Whereas, the State of South Carolina considers itself fortunate to have Mrs. Lynn Hoover as a citizen, and her love and compassion have impressed us all. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize Mrs. Lynn Hoover of Ridgeville who selflessly donated her kidney to her co-worker's brother and commend Mrs. Hoover on her overwhelming kindness and generosity.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Lynn Hoover of Ridgeville.
