Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Margaret Wallace Bailey PreviousTinsleyNext, of Greenwood County, on February 19, 2008, at the venerable age of 91; and

She earned a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Missouri in 1938; and

Whereas, she began her career in journalism as a reporter for The Index-Journal and worked in that capacity until 1941, following which she was a broadcast journalist for WCRS Radio for three years. After her marriage in 1944, Mrs. PreviousTinsleyNext devoted many years to active participation in the civic life of Greenwood, serving on the boards of the Lander Foundation and the YMCA. In years past, she was also involved in Friends of the Library, Friends of the Museum, the Ivy Garden Club, Boy Scouts of America, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Greenwood Genealogical Society, the Star Fort Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the McKissick Study Club, and the Afternoon Lander Alumni Club; and

Whereas, in further demonstration of commitment to her community, Margaret PreviousTinsleyNext gave time and energy to the Soup Kitchen and the Greenwood Methodist Home (now Wesley Commons), aided numerous individuals in need, and provided programs for local civic clubs and organizations over many years; and

Whereas, as a longtime member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Mrs. PreviousTinsleyNext, along with her late husband, served it joyfully in various capacities, in Mrs. PreviousTinsleyNext's case most notably as co-teacher of a Sunday School class for more than thirty-five years; and

Whereas, in recognition of her contributions to her community, Margaret PreviousTinsleyNext was honored by Lander University in 1992 with the Distinguished Alumna Award and again in 2002 with the Grace Iler Norman Award. In 1994, she was presented with South Carolina's highest civilian award, the Order of the Palmetto; and

Whereas, she was married to the late W.D. PreviousTinsleyNext, Sr., the Lord blessing this union with five children, W.D. PreviousTinsleyNext, Sarah Alice Schulze, Joel B. PreviousTinsleyNext, Robert J. PreviousTinsleyNext, and Martha T. Beaudrot. Her children, eight grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends remain to cherish her legacy. Margaret PreviousTinsleyNext's loyalty and devotion to her loved ones, as well as to her State, were admired by all who knew her, and she will be missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
