A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY OF THE GENERAL
ASSEMBLY TO THE FAMILY OF MR. HERBERT MELLETTE,
JR., OF TURBEVILLE, UPON HIS DEATH.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were deeply
saddened to learn of the recent death of Mr. Herbert Mellette, Jr., of
Turbeville at the age of sixty-five; and
Whereas, Mr. Mellette was a native of Clarendon County and, he
was a respected business and agricultural leader in Turbeville and
Clarendon County throughout his adult life. He was past president
and owner of the Wingard and Coker Farm Supply Company of
Turbeville and former chairman of the Clarendon County A.S.C.S.
Committee; and
Whereas, he also served his county and State in a number of civic
and community endeavors carrying on the tradition of his late
father, the Honorable Miller H. Mellette, who represented
Clarendon County in the House of Representatives for over two
decades. His brother, Russell D. Mellette, is also a friend of many
members of the General Assembly through his activities at the State
House in Columbia; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
would like to extend their sincere condolences to his wife, Mrs.
Olive Coker Mellette; daughters, Ann M. Hall and Janet M. Calder;
and sons, Joe Mellette and Eddie H. Mellette; and other members of
his family upon the death of this truly fine man. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby express their
deepest sympathy to the family of Mr. Herbert Mellette, Jr., of
Turbeville, upon his death.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
his widow, Mrs. Olive Coker Mellette.
