A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

SALUTING JAY JOHNSON AND HIS FELLOW "SWAMP FOXES" FIGHTER PILOTS FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO FREEDOM IN THE WAR ON TERRORISM IN SOUTHWEST ASIA.

Whereas, half a dozen aircraft, F-16 fighter planes, along with the South Carolina Air National Guard pilots, aircraft maintenance specialists, and support personnel returned to McEntire Air National Guard Base in April 3, 2002, from the War on Terrorism; and

Whereas, more than 200 members of the 169th Fighter Wing were deployed to Southwest Asia from their home base in lower Richland County in January 2002; they were the first Air National Guard fighter unit deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and were able to make their way back to the Palmetto State after three months of fighting overseas; and

Whereas, the F-16's, known as the "Swamp Foxes", were based in the nation of Qatar on the Persian Gulf and flew combat missions in the War on Terrorism; and

Whereas, Jay Johnson, who worked for the South Carolina Senate, was a part of this admirable group; and

Whereas, we are delighted to have the opportunity to salute Jay and his fellow "Swamp Foxes" in this special manner for their contributions toward stamping out terrorism. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, salutes Jay Johnson and his fellow "Swamp Foxes" fighter pilots for their contributions to freedom in the War on Terrorism in Southwest Asia.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jay Johnson and the "Swamp Foxes".
