Whereas, Lieutenant Edgar Bruce Rogers had devoted his life to serving others and serving as a firefighter until he died on Thursday, April 22, 2004, at age fifty-six of a heart attack; and

Whereas, born in Monroe, North Carolina, Mr. Rogers was the son of the late Edgar Sylvester and Grace Rorie Rogers; and

Whereas, a graduate of Forrest Hills High School, Mr. Rogers was an Honors graduate of Wingate University and Appalachian State University, and he was a Chesterfield Elementary School teacher for eight years; and

Whereas, with a passion for fighting fires, Mr. Rogers attended his first fire at the age of sixteen and was one of the founding members of the Lanescreek Fire Department; and

Whereas, upon moving to Chesterfield in 1970, Mr. Rogers began work as a volunteer firefighter for the Chesterfield Fire Department, where he continued to serve for twenty-eight years; and

Whereas, an active member in the community, Mr. Rogers was a member and former Chairman of Deacons at Chesterfield Baptist Church and served as Lieutenant and Secretary for the Chesterfield Fire Department; and

Whereas, a supervisor with Crown Cork & Seal Company, Inc., for the past twenty-six years, it was his role as firefighter that truly brought happiness and joy to Mr. Rogers' life; and

Whereas, Mr. Rogers' death has brought great sorrow and loss not only to the members of the Chesterfield Fire Department, but also to the members of the Chesterfield community, as he touched so many lives through his own; and

Whereas, Mr. Edgar Bruce Rogers is survived by his wife, Katherine McLain Rogers of Chesterfield; his son, Paul Rogers of Monroe, North Carolina; grandchildren, Madison Clark Rogers and Logan Thomas Rogers; sisters, Virginia Maples of Monroe, North Carolina, and Paulette R. Childers of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; and many other loving family members and friends. Now, therefore,
