A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE DUTCH FORK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN
SCHOOL DISTRICT 5 OF LEXINGTON AND RICHLAND
COUNTIES UPON BEING DESIGNATED AMONG
"AMERICA'S BEST" SCHOOLS BY REDBOOK
MAGAZINE.
Whereas, Dutch Fork Elementary School in School District 5 of
Lexington and Richland Counties has been designated among
"America's Best" schools by Redbook magazine; and
Whereas, Redbook's America's Best Schools Project highlighted one
hundred seventy-seven outstanding public elementary schools through
the country, each of which has created innovative, successful programs
to address the needs of today's students; and
Whereas, Dutch Fork Elementary School is among six public elementary
schools in South Carolina and one hundred seventy-seven nationally
selected from three hundred sixty finalists for the award. The selections
were made by educators at Columbia Teacher's College in New York
City; and
Whereas, Dutch Fork Principal Dr. Anne L. Scott said, "We
believe we are a good school, but it is nice to have someone outside the
school recognize us. It is another pat on the back"; and
Whereas, an in-school mail system at Dutch Fork encourages younger
students to write to their teachers and each other. Students also produce
a television show, "Morning News," each day with student
correspondents collecting school news, conducting interviews, and
reporting live on the school's in-house television network; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly salute the principal and
teachers at Dutch Fork Elementary School as well as its students and
their parents as essential elements in this wonderful honor; and
Whereas, we are proud to recognize Dutch Fork Elementary School for
its overall excellence in its instructional innovations, parental
involvement, student recognition, community-school relationship,
technological advances, extracurricular activities, health and safety
program, and academic achievement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly congratulate the Dutch Fork
