A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THE CONTRIBUTION TO THE SPORT OF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MADE BY SAUDIA ROUNDTREE OF ANDERSON IN HER INCREDIBLE PLAYING CAREER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA AND IN HER YEARS AT ANDERSON'S WESTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly take pride in noting the extraordinary achievements of Miss Saudia Roundtree of Anderson in her basketball playing career at the University of Georgia, where she has been named Naismith National Player of the Year as well as being selected as National Player of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association, Rawlings/WBCA, UPI, and RCA; and

Whereas, she was the leading vote recipient in the balloting for the AP All America team, and was voted the SEC Player of the Year by the league's twelve coaches and was also named first team All-SEC for the second season; and

Whereas, in her years at Anderson Westside High, she was the state's Player of the Year in 1991 and 1992, and named to the inaugural Kodak High School All-American Team; and

Whereas, these accomplishments bring honor not only to her and her alma mater, but also contribute greatly to the rising popularity and competitiveness of women's basketball in both college and high school; and

Whereas, it is appropriate for members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations so that they might recognize the achievements of so distinguished a daughter of South Carolina.

Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution express their congratulations to Miss Saudia Roundtree of Anderson for her achievements in and contributions to women's basketball in her playing career at the University of Georgia, at Kilgore, and at Anderson's Westside High School.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Miss Roundtree.
