ANNIVERSARY, AND COMMENDING THE CITY FOR ITS PROUD LOCAL HISTORY AND
CONTINUING STATEWIDE CONTRIBUTIONS.

A SENATE RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING THE CITY OF CLEMSON, ITS MAYOR
LARRY ABERNATHY, AND THE CLEMSON CITY COUNCIL
ON THE OCCASION OF THE CITY'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY,
AND COMMENDING THE CITY FOR ITS PROUD LOCAL
HISTORY AND CONTINUING STATEWIDE CONTRIBUTIONS.
Whereas, the City of Clemson, South Carolina, was incorporated fifty
years ago on November 1, 1946; and
Whereas, the city is in the midst of an exciting year-long celebration
of its 50th Anniversary; and
Whereas, the celebration is an event that takes advantage of and
demonstrates the best the city has to offer in terms of art, music,
cultural history, educational excellence, recreational enjoyment, and
natural beauty; and
Whereas, the city's artists, writers, musicians, and poets; teachers and
students; academic historians and old timers with tales to tell; and
city officials, employees, and residents all join in this effort to display
and acknowledge the diversity and depth of Clemson's heritage and
contributions; and
Whereas, the celebratory events include, among other activities, art
shows, outdoor musical concerts, poetry and literary readings,
classroom visits by city officials explaining local government,
participation in the Clemson University baseball game with Berkeley,
and initiation of and selection to a City of Clemson "Hall of Fame";
and
Whereas, Clemson Mayor Larry Abernathy, the Clemson City
Council, and city employees have spearheaded this year-long
celebration of the city's proud local history and continuing statewide
contributions. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That members of the General Assembly congratulate the City of
Clemson, its Mayor Larry Abernathy, and the Clemson City Council
on the occasion of the city's 50th Anniversary, and extend the
commendation of the General Assembly to the city for its proud local
history and continuing statewide contributions.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Mayor Larry Abernathy on behalf of the City of Clemson.
