A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE LACEY LONG FOR BEING SOUTH CAROLINA'S REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE ELEVENTH ANNUAL RESPECTEEN NATIONAL YOUTH FORUM HELD IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

Whereas, Lacey Long, a thirteen-year-old resident of Newberry, is the daughter of Dennis and Gwen Long, and she is an eighth-grade student in Susan Lester's class at Newberry Middle School; and,

Whereas, Lacey Long wrote a letter on the subject of teen suicide to U.S. Representative John Spratt as part of the RespecTeen Speak for Yourself social studies curriculum and letter-writing program; and

Whereas, Lacey Long was one of the fifty-one letter-writers chosen from nearly 11,000 students nationwide to discuss national issues with members of the U.S. Congress at the eleventh annual RespecTeen National Youth Forum, May 1-6, in Washington, D.C.; and

Whereas, the RespecTeen National Youth Forum is part of the Lutheran Brotherhood's larger philanthropic initiative to support youth; and

Whereas, the Lutheran Brotherhood is a fraternal benefit society of more than one million members joined together for financial security, benevolent outreach and volunteer service; Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize the maturity and conscience of Lacey Long in addressing the critical issue of teen suicide and thank her for representing the Palmetto State in Washington, D.C., at the RespecTeen National Youth Forum.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Lacey Long.
