A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE MARTHA BEE AND ANDY ANDERSON OF HAMPTON, LONG TIME RESIDENTS AND STEWARDS OF THE COMMUNITY, FOR THEIR PUBLIC SERVICE AND SUPPORT OF MANY WORTHWHILE HAMPTON COUNTY ACTIVITIES, AND TO WISH THEM GODSPEED AS THEY MOVE ON TO LIVE NEAR THEIR SON AND HIS FAMILY.

Whereas, Martha Bee Anderson is the daughter of Annie Elizabeth West, a native of Camden, and William Julian Anderson, a native of Charleston. Her parents met in Hampton and married. She met and married her husband, Alan (Andy) Anderson, a native of New York City, at Winthrop College in Rock Hill; and

Whereas, Martha Bee worked for the Charleston News and Courier before her marriage. She served as editor of the Hampton County Guardian from 1975-81 and continues to write articles for the paper. She has received many South Carolina Press Association awards for her writing. She has written about historical sites in the Low Country. She wrote the Town of Hampton historical brochure and is the proofreader for the Hampton Museum and Visitors Center grants and publications; and

Whereas, Andy is the past commander of the American Legion Post and is now retired from Westinghouse Corporation. Andy has been active in the United Way and the Hampton County Department of Special Needs Board. Andy and Bee have one son, Carl Eric, who is a heart surgeon. He and his wife, Mary Ann, have given Martha Bee and Andy four loving grandchildren; and

Whereas, Martha Bee is very active in the community. She is a strong supporter of the Hampton County Watermelon Festival. Her lifelong interests include art and historic preservation. She is well known in Hampton for her loving kindnesses to its residents. On a lighter note, everyone in town knows Martha Bee for her watermelon hat and her bicycle; and

Whereas, with a tinge of sadness, the people of Hampton wish the Andersons a fond farewell as they move to be closer to their son, Carl, his wife Mary Ann, and their four beautiful grandchildren; and

Whereas, it is fitting for the members of the House of Representatives to commend Martha Bee and Andy as the finest examples of public service and stewardship for their community of Hampton. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives that its members recognize Martha Bee and Andy Anderson of Hampton, long time residents and stewards of the community, for their public service and support of many worthwhile Hampton County activities, and wish them Godspeed as they move on to live near their son and his family.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Martha Bee and Andy Anderson.
