Whereas, Mrs. Sandra R. Leatherwood of Columbia recently has been nominated for the national award of "Outstanding Teacher of Math and Science", culminating an eighteen-year career in the classroom; and

Whereas, Mrs. Leatherwood earned her degree from the University of South Carolina after growing up in Alabama; and

Whereas, a product of Catholic schools, she developed her love of teaching early in life through encouragement from a teacher at The Most Pure Heart of Mary in Mobile, Alabama; and

Whereas, Mrs. Leatherwood has been married to Cleveland Leatherwood for the past twenty-five years and they are the proud parents of three children, all graduates of Catholic schools; and

Whereas, in addition to her duties as a teacher in the Catholic school system, Mrs. Leatherwood is an instructor in a manipulative math process for other teachers across the United States, serves as an officer of the Diocesan Board of Christian Education, and is an active member of St. Peter's Parish in Columbia; and

Whereas, Mrs. Leatherwood has brought recognition to herself and her family, the Catholic school system, and her many students and friends through her dedication to the teaching profession and her involvement with a national program on manipulative math process for young students. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
