A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
CONGRATULATING CMI INDUSTRIES, INC., ON ITS
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION.
Whereas, on February 1, 1896, Mercer Silas Bailey founded Clinton
Cotton Mills in the Town of Clinton; and
Whereas, from that beginning one hundred years ago has grown
CMI Industries, Inc., with manufacturing facilities in Clinton,
corporate offices in Columbia, sales offices in New York City, and
plants in Geneva, Alabama; Clarkesville, Georgia; Elkin and
Greensboro, North Carolina; and Stuart, Virginia; and
Whereas, for a century Clinton Cotton Mills and later, CMI
Industries, Inc., have served as the economic backbone of Laurens
County in general and the Clinton community in particular; CMI
has become a major industrial player in South Carolina and on a
national basis as well; this organization has made countless
contributions to the quality of life in the Laurens County area,
touching progressively the lives of all of the citizens of that area;
and
Whereas, it is with deep appreciation that we recognize CMI's
contributions and its providing of job opportunities and economic
stability to generations of South Carolinians and thousands of other
people nationwide; CMI richly deserves to be saluted for its skilled
and dedicated work force and for its leadership and vision which
have built this great company into a major industry from a humble
beginning in our midst a century ago. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this
resolution, congratulates CMI Industries, Inc., on its centennial
celebration.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
CMI Industries, Inc.
