VERSIONS OF THIS BILL

6/3/2008

S. 1443

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE MEMBERS OF THE SIMPSONVILLE HONOR FLIGHT PLANNING COMMITTEE FOR TRANSPORTING ONE HUNDRED WORLD WAR II VETERANS TO OUR NATION'S CAPITAL TO VIEW THE WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL, AND TO ENCOURAGE OTHER COMMUNITIES TO FOLLOW SIMPSONVILLE'S FINE EXAMPLE.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the General Assembly recognizes those who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to community service, among whom the members of the Simpsonville Honor Flight Planning Committee rank high; and

Whereas, in gratitude to the World War II veterans in their midst, the members of the Simpsonville Honor Flight Planning Committee, led by Mayor Dennis Waldrop and his wife, Betty, transported one hundred World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., so that these twentieth-century heroes might view the national memorial honoring their courageous service and sacrifice in that war; and

Whereas, traveling by charter flight and attended by Travelers Rest physician Jim MacMillan, the group departed at nine o'clock on the morning of Wednesday, May 7, 2008, for Washington, D.C., and returned that same evening after an unforgettable day; and

Whereas, the trip was financed by contributions from businesses and individuals, not the least of which was twelve hundred dollars raised for the cause by the students of Langston Charter Middle School; and

Whereas, members of the Simpsonville Honor Flight Planning Committee were Doris Ashe, Joan Bridges, Patty Sanders, Paul Shewmaker, Tammy Bagwell, Jeff Miller, Paul Howell, Betty Waldrop, and Mayor Dennis Waldrop; and

Whereas, grateful for the Simpsonville Honor Flight Planning Committee's care and concern for our veterans, the General Assembly would like to thank the committee for its hard work in bringing this project to a successful conclusion, and the members of the General Assembly strongly encourage other communities to organize such efforts to honor their own veterans. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the members of the Simpsonville Honor Flight Planning Committee for transporting one hundred World War II veterans to our nation's capital to view the World War II memorial, and encourage other communities to follow Simpsonville's fine example.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mayor Dennis Waldrop for the Simpsonville Honor Flight Planning Committee.
